Scheme list

Government Schemes for Women: Money, Pensions, Loans and Health

338 entries in this list, Central schemes first. It updates itself when a scheme is added or closed.

This list brings together the schemes a woman can apply for in her own name, from the Centre and from every State: regular cash support for women heads of families where a State pays it, pensions for widows and women living alone, help at childbirth, loans for self-help groups and small businesses, and schemes for safety and legal help. The Centre’s schemes are open across India; a State scheme is open only to residents of that State, and each page says which.

To choose, start with what you need, whether that is money every month, help with a child’s birth or a loan to start work, then check the conditions on each page. Most schemes for women ask for Aadhaar, a bank account in the woman’s own name, proof of residence and, where there is an income limit, an income certificate. Some State schemes also use the ration card to decide who heads the family.

Questions readers ask

Can I get more than one of these schemes?

Often, yes. A Central scheme and a State scheme can usually be held together, but some State grants leave out families that already get a similar payment or pension. Each page lists these cases among the people who are left out.

Do I need a bank account in my own name?

For almost every scheme that pays money, yes: payments go by Direct Benefit Transfer to the beneficiary's own account, usually one linked with Aadhaar. Opening one before you apply saves time.

Where do women apply?

It depends on the scheme: on an online portal, at a Common Service Centre, at the Anganwadi centre for some maternity schemes, or at a block, tehsil or district office. The how-to-apply part of each page names the place.
